Acting classes—should you be taking them?
I am.
Just so you know, this isn’t something I have done a great deal of—acting or acting classes or film or theater. I am not counting the facades, personas and personalities I may or may not have affected throughout my life. I am also not counting times I may have acted like I enjoyed some social activity but would rather have been hiding somewhere alone in a cave. As for acting like a jerk, not counting those times either.
I have always had this desire to participate in theater but never acted on it (pun intended.) Why? Good question really. Maybe I was thinking I should only do those things I figured were responsible opposed to what I might actually like to do. Fear, lack of confidence played a part. And there was the, “not wanting to tell people I was taking acting classes and having to answer why,” conundrum. I was embarrassed that I wanted to act.
So why am I taking acting classes now? Because it’s something I feel drawn to do. And I am having so much fun. And I am learning how to express emotions and tell a story in a powerful way. And yes, I want to act. And I hope to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame someday—or maybe not. But so what? I am doing something I have wanted to do for a long time—regardless of what becomes of it. And now I am finally acting—and I am not referring to on stage—I am doing something about something instead of just dreaming about it. And I don’t care so much what others think.
Why don’t we do more of that? Do something we have always wanted to do? It doesn’t have to lead to fame or fortune. It can just be for fun. Or because it is something you have always wanted to do.
What have you always wanted to do but have put off? Why not try acting—on it?
